Warwick to Tenterfield |
We woke to thick fog which did not clear until after 10 am. Once the fog cleared, it was warm and sunny, though rather cold at night.
We drove around many lovely buildings and enjoyed a walk through the excellent Leslie Park in Warwick (where a helpful gardener confirmed that the purple 'flowers' were indeed kale).
We then took a rather long detour east to Killarney and then The Falls Drive. Daggs Falls was easily accessible and had a good, long drop. Queen Mary Falls required a bit more walking to get to, so Mum had a not-very-enjoyable devonshire tea at The Falls Cafe while I walked to the falls. We then continued on to Carrs Lookout, which looks over the head of the Condamine River, which in turn feeds into the Murray-Darling. So the water from these falls has a long way to travel!
To continue our journey we had to head back to the outskirts of Warwick - through hilly, wooded country to Killarney, and then a long, flat stretch to Warwick.
We then headed south through Stanthorpe to Tenterfield, where we stayed at the Peter Allen Motor Inn (Peter Allen - "I still call Australia Home" - was born in Tenterfield). In the late afternoon, I went for a walk around the town. Sir Henry Parkes delivered his Federation Speech in the Tenterfield School of Arts on 24 October 1889.
