After a last look around the Chinese Monument in Cooktown, we headed back down the Mulligan Highway to drop Pam back at Mareeba, stopping for coffee at Lakeland. After we said goodbye to Pam, we took the Kennedy Highway to the Barron Falls. Then it was on to Kuranda, where we strolled around the railway station and shops and stopped for lunch.

After lunch, we drove down to Cairns to take Eddie back to the college. Mum and I then set off for Port Douglas, arriving in time for a walk along Four Mile Beach. We had a slight problem at Martinique on Macrossan - the owners were out and didn't seem to have a record of our booking after a computer crash. However, they came back and sorted it all out - we had a lovely ground floor room with a courtyard and kitchen facilities, so we settled in for a casual dinner in our room.
