We spent the morning strolling around Fishermans Wharf and Bicentennial Park. The Duyfken ("Little Dove") replica was in port, on its way from Sydney back home to Fremantle (Pam: the coat of arms and motto on the bow are that of Fremantle - "Nec prece nec pretio" - "neither by entreaty nor by bribery"). Bicentennial Park naturally has lots of James Cook monuments and markers, as well as monuments to the Palmer River goldrush - "Mick the Miner" and the Chinese Monument. The Milbi Wall, which depicts some of the local history from an Aboriginal perspective, was extremely interesting and well done.

Later in the morning we went to the Botanic Gardens and Finch Bay, before going back to the Cooks Landing Kiosk for lunch. The next stop was the James Cook Museum - a former Sisters of Mercy convent where Mum and Eddie's mother was a boarder in the early 1900s. After a rest in the motel, we drove up to the Grassy Hill and Cooks Lookout to watch the sunset, before a very good dinner at Restaurant 1770 on Fishermans Wharf.
